Dyslexia Awareness Month Is Just the Start

As Dyslexia Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re reminded that awareness is just the beginning. Real change happens in the ongoing conversations, research, and classroom practices that move us closer to reading success for every child.

At this year’s International Dyslexia Association DyslexiaCon, we were honored to join educators, clinicians, researchers, and families who share that mission. The event was full of energy, ideas, and meaningful dialogue about what’s next for the science of reading and what it will take to turn awareness into action.

What stood out most

  1. Early screening is only the beginning
With more states adopting universal screening laws, like California’s new SB 114, the field is focused not just on identifying students at risk, but ensuring every child gets the support they need. Awareness is progress, but equitable access to evidence-based intervention is where impact begins.

  2. Understanding how the brain learns
Many sessions explored how the brain builds the pathways that make fluent reading possible. Researchers shared new insights on rhythm, timing, and auditory processing, reminding us that reading isn’t just about what we teach, but how the brain synchronizes sound and language.

  3. Collaboration is driving momentum
Across sessions, one theme came through clearly: when researchers, teachers, and developers collaborate, innovation accelerates. These partnerships are transforming evidence into practical tools that meet students where they are and help them move forward.

At Poppins, these conversations reaffirmed why our work matters. By supporting the brain’s timing and rhythm systems, we’re helping strengthen the foundations that make fluent reading possible.

Dyslexia Awareness Month may be over but for us, it’s just the start of what’s next.
